Ice Rink supporters launch effort to buy property and build new facility

A new fundraising campaign with “one goal, two projects” has begun, raising money to both purchase the Yakima Ice Rink property and eventually build a new ice sports facility.

The campaign began last spring and raised about $100,000, YAHA president Chris Bartheld said.

The nonprofit organization has “a bold mission: to build a new, state-of-the-art ice facility for the Yakima Valley.” The foundation believes it will need three phases to open a new ice rink, with each phase costing $5 million.

A big part of the new fundraising campaign is The Rink Foundation. Hockey and ice sports parents in the Yakima Valley founded the group this year and established a five-member board of directors, headed by Coppock as president.
