The Rink Foundation
An organization with a mission to bring an ice rink facility to Yakima to sustain and grow hockey, ice sports, and activities in the Valley.
We are dedicated to preserving the legacy of ice sports in Yakima!
Why We Got Started
Following the announcement that the beloved Yakima Ice Rink on Beech Street, a fixture in our community for nearly 75 years, might close its doors, parents and community members united with a single purpose:
to keep our skates on the ice.
Why an Ice Rink?
Ice sports have long been a cherished tradition among Yakima families.
Since the 1950s, generations have gathered to skate, play, and forge lasting memories.
It has given us:
- economic growth and partnership opportunities,
- a creative outlet for our youth, and a
- central community space.

Keep Ice Sports in the Yakima Valley
One goal, two projects.
We want to be clear about the difference between us, The Rink Foundation, and the Yakima Amateur Hockey Association (YAHA) who is running the current Yakima ice rink on Beech Street.
GOAL
Maintain location to continue to grow existing programs to capacity and explore additional programs to build revenue.
YAHA is focused on growing and maintaining programs housed at the rink. They are working on securing a long-term lease or purchase option at the current YAKIMA ICE RINK unless/until a new facility is built.
NEED: $550K
Already obtained 100K with the aim to raise the rest in pledges in the next 6 months.
WHY?
The existing programming is imperative to keeping ice sports alive during the planning and build of the new facility.
GOAL
Plan, design, and obtain funds to build a long-term ice-sports facility.
We are focused on building relationships and securing community-donated and state funding to design and build a facility that will allow the expansion of ice-sports in the Yakima Valley. We are working with YAHA to maintain programs and secure their housing for years to come.
NEED: $15M
Year 1: $5M to cement plans and buy land.
Year 2: $5M to build a base rink with plans of future expansion.
Year 3: $5M to open the facility and support operations of the rink.
WHY?
The current building is reaching the end of its natural lifespan with no room to expand. A state-of-the-art facility will set our athletes and participants up for success!
